Kirkland Signature Cask Blend
What the Bottler Says:
Combining the knowledge of some of Scotland’s master distillers, and using only the purest waters from Scotland’s Highland lochs, this Kirkland Signature Scotch Whisky was matured for almost a quarter of a century in hand-picked ex-Bourbon Oak casks. The result is a blended Scotch that is dark amber in color with aromas of freshly sliced apples and malted barley. It is full-bodied with notes of toffee, dried fruit and oak. These flavors linger on the palate and give way to a long, smooth, warming finish.

What Richard Says:
Nose: Orange zest, dried honeycombs, and under ripe apples. At the back there is just the slightest bit of tobacco.
Palate: This is a very smooth easy drinking blend that drinks a bit younger than it is. There are wisps in the flavor of that polished leather and sweet pipe tobacco note from old scotch but not as much as you would expect. Mostly, what comes through is caramel drizzled fruity sweetness.
Finish: This finishes a little more on the woody side but the blender is right about the long, warming finish.
Comments: Greatest scotch find ever from Costco? No. Although for age statement whores finding a 24 year old blended scotch for under $50 could be a steal. In terms of what it’s the bottle you can find better, more interesting (although younger) scotches at this price point but this isn’t a bad buy at all either.
Rating: Stands Out

  1. Is your pricing correct? If so, I want to visit your Costco. Ours here in Greenville, South Carolina has the same bottle at $89.99 !

  2. My friend and I tasted it and determined it isn’t as smooth as a 24 year old should be. We figured the white dog contained more heads and tails than it should have. The cask flavors are also bland, but not off tasting, just meh……I would skip. I will use it for whisky tastings with friends as a scotch not to get just because of its age statement.

  3. Dsappointed. Drinkable, but not at all worth what I paid for it. Oh well, they can’t be all bargains. Please give this one a pass. Finish is unpleasant.

  4. I THOUGHT I GOT A BARGAIN FOR $70 BUCKS, BUT I FIND IT IS HARSH TASTING. I WILL STICK TO MY JOHNNY WALKER BLACK. SMOOTH AND SOO RELIABLE. PHIL, ESTERO FLORIDA

  5. My Costco just lowered the price to $39.97. I just bought one for $68 two weeks ago. At $40 it’s a steal in my opinion.

  6. Just picked up a 27-yo house/PL Kirkland blended at my local Costco for $50. Never seen the 27-yo before, only the 24, which seems to underwhelm a lot of people. IMO the 27 drinks similar to the Aberlour 16 (but costs almost 40% less). A lot of fruit & caramel on the nose, with noticeable coffee bean mid-palate. Short/thin but interesting finish. Will revisit tonight to look for the influence of more than a quarter-century in bourbon casks. No real apples-to-apples data points to compare it to (i.e., no other 24+ year from different makers/distillers – speaking of which, who *is* the Highland distiller in this blend?). Anyway YMMV, but at this price point I’m going back today to pick up 1-2 more.
