Thanks for the reply, Richard. I look forward to the tasting tonight. And while Twin Liquors certainly has number of locations on its side, it has the selection of a quickmart compared to what I like to think of the ‘Wal-mart of spirit merchants’ – SPEC’s. Oh how I miss it. These pics may give you an idea:

Unfortunately, Georgia law prohibits selling at these events. Conversely, liquor stores also can’t do tastings. It kind of sucks but hell we just got Sunday liquor sales in December! Mac McGee’s is a non-smoking locations like 95% of the bars in Atlanta. No worries about bringing the wife. In terms of selection we generally just don’t get as much as someone like Twin Liquors in Austin. I believe Tower on Piedmont and Pearson’s in Buckhead probably have the biggest overall selections but in kind of depends on what you’re looking for and the spirit manager at each place. If you need help tracking something down let me know. Oh, and welcome to Atlanta!

not sure why it took me 7 months of living in ATL to find your blog, but all good thing comes to those who wait (to search for whiskey tasting events while enjoying a friday evening knappogue castle double wood (do yourself a favor and google it)). some quick questions — at these tastings, do they ever give you the option to apply some or all of your ‘cover’ to the purchase of one of their bottles? Do they even sell the bottles at the tasting? How smokey is Mac McGee’s (I would bring my 7 months pregnant wife as my DD)? And lastly, where the hell do you shop for your whiskeys in Atlanta? I have yet to find any store with a selection even close to my standards in TX

There are some really good ones and blends can be a steal.
