New U.S. Releases – May‘10

It’s time for the monthly new release round up again. May was kind of a quiet month. I only heard about four new whiskies this past month. However, all four look mighty nice. Here’s the list:

Springbank 18 Year Old
Timeframe: Now
ABV: $46%
Price: $150
Springbank is relaunching their 18 Year Old with new packaging in line with what they recently did to the 10 and 15 Year expressions. The $150 price tag is also a slight decrease from previous pricing.

Ardbeg Supernove 2010
Timeframe: May 31st
ABV: 60.1%
Price: $130
Peak freaks take note. Ardbeg is bringing Supernova back! Get it while you can.

Forty Creek Confederation Oak Reserve
Timeframe: April 19th through June 23rd
ABV: ?
Price: ?
This is another limited release from Forty Creek. John made 16,800 bottles of this special Canadian whisky aged in Canadian oak barrels made from 150 year old trees. It is available first come first served by reservation only. You can reserve your bottle at Forty Creek’s website.

Glenfiddich Rich Oak
Timeframe: Late Fall 2010
ABV: ?
Price: $50
I know a lot of aficionados kind of look past Glenfiddich as being pedestrian. I personally love their malts and new expressions get me really excited. This one is aged 14 years, first in second fill bourbon barrels and then 12 weeks in new Spanish oak followed by 6 weeks in new American oak. The result is supposed to be a richer vanilla flavor. Glenfiddich for bourbon drinkers? We’ll see.

On a final note we heard back from the Glenlivet rep and she said that the new 1973 Cellar Collection release that we first mentioned in February will be coming out in June so be on the lookout for this one.

That’s all I’ve got for May.

Drink wisely my friends,

Richard

Who says Glenfiddich is pedestrian? There is a reason it’s one of the most recognizable names in single malt. The 21yo rum cask finish is anything but pedestrian. I’m super excited about new expressions.
